What Is The Process Of Metal Stamping?

9 Metal Stamping Processes to Consider - American Industrial

Metal stamping is a process used by metal companies to come up with the desired shapes of metals. A lot of techniques are used in Texas metal stamping. There are a lot of companies in Texas for instance that provide services of metal stamping.

Ever wondered how metals are formed into different forms? Then you got it. These shapes you see in metals are because of the metal stamping process. After metal stamping the components are then delivered to various industries such as hospitals and automobiles.

Metal stamping involves a lot of processes as well as tools used in stamping. CAM/CAD is the engineering technology that experts used to design tools. This technique is used before forming the materials. Precision is a must for the designs. This helps in ensuring each bend and punch maintains proper clearance.

Metal Stamping Types

Metal stamping is done by using three major types or techniques. They are as discussed below.

Progressive Die Stamping

Progressive stamping features some stations and each station has its unique function.

In the first step, a metal strip is passed through a progressive stamping press. The strip enrolls gradually from a coil which then enters inside the die press. Then, at the toll each station performs a different punch, cut, or bend. These processes result in a completed and successful part. There are some metal parts that have complex geometry and for them an ideal solution is the progressive die stamping.

Fourslide Stamping

Fourslide is also known as multi-slide. This involves four different slides and horizontal alignment. Additionally, there are four tools that are used concurrently to ensure workpiece shaping. The complex parts are developed using this technique. Fourslide stamping has some advantages over the traditional press stamping. Some of the advantages are:

One, it ensures complex parts with versatility.

Second, for design changes there is more flexibility.

It is called fourslide because it involves four slides. This means that four tolls per slide, thus enabling several bends simultaneously.

Deep Draw Stamping

The last technique of metal stamping. Here, the sheet metal plank is pulled into the die through a punch. By doing that shape is formed. Depth of a drawn is expected to exceed its diameter, and that is why it is known as a deep draw.

Stamping dies

Metal needs to be cut so that it may be in the desired form and shape. This is done using stamping dies which are the tools used. Dies vary in size and therefore there are different dies used in stamping.

There are some types of dies that do exist. These types of dies are used for forming, cutting, or both. Let’s look at the types of dies used.

Cutting

This is the most used operation. A metal is detached by laying amid two dodging sections of steel tool with a small gap in their midst. The gap is what is referred to as cutting clearance. Most operators use a metal thickness of 10% as the cutting clearance.

Trimming

To come up with a designed profile for a piece, the outer perimeter is cut away. The material that is excess is discharged as scrap.

Piercing

This is also referred to as perforating. This stage produces a square, round or even special-shaped pigpen in a formed part or flat sheet metal.

Notching

This is normally linked with progressive dies. In order to come up with a particular strip profile, cutting operation is done progressively and it is done on the outside part of the metal sheet.

Shearing

This cuts or slices the metal beside a straight line. That is the process of metal stamping. Metals pass through various stages and operations to get the forms and shapes that are required. Since metals are required for various functions, companies need to shape the metals in the required shape. This is very common in Texas metal stamping.
