Why should you buy a berkey pro care maintenance kit?

A dirty berkey water filter will lose its filtration ability and the capacity to purify water. It will also lose its ability to last long.  You can clean your system with a berkey pro care maintenance kit, which can be bought from USA berkey filters.

Cleaning your berkey water filter is beneficial because it prevents the buildup of sediments and other unwanted contaminants that may enter your water supply. If your berkey water filter becomes clogged, this will result in a decrease in the flow of water that is being filtered into your collection vessel as well as result in a decrease in the time it takes to fill this vessel up with filtered water. You may have noticed that when using a clogged berkey water filter you will have to refill the collection vessel multiple times before finally filling it up. This is because the clogged berkey water filter slows down the filtration process and thus consumes more time than usual to fill up your collection vessel.

When cleaning your berkey water filter, it is important to follow a proper cleaning routine so as not to damage any of your parts or components. While there are several ways to clean your berkey water filters (such as through the use of soap or vinegar), we highly recommend using our cleaning tablets for convenience purposes as well as for their effectiveness. It is important not to use a regular household dish.

When you treat your Berkey water filter, you will have clean drinking water. However, the Berkey water filter is also a biological growth habitat for micro-organisms and algae. If you do not clean your Berkey water filter regularly, micro-organisms and algae will accumulate. What does this mean? It means that your clean drinking water will become contaminated with micro-organisms and algae!

Therefore, it is very important to keep your Berkey water filter clean.

To activate the cleaning process of the active charcoal in your Berkey water filter, you need to pour 2 cups of chlorine bleach into the upper chamber of your Royal Berkey System. Then run plain tap water through the system until it has a distinct chlorine smell. You should do this cleaning once every 3 months or so because it depends on how much water you use.

After dumping out the chlorine bleach, you should fill your system with fresh tap water, then run an additional three cycles of plain tap water through the system to set up the new chlorine residual in the upper chamber. Your Royal Berkey System is now ready to be used again.

There are 2 types of filters, the ceramic and the charcoal. The filter cartridges for these 2 types of filters should be cleaned regularly to maintain the flow rate and performance output of your Berkey water filter.

The ceramic filters are designed to remove particles as small as 1 micron in diameter. They are not effective at removing chemicals or bacteria. We recommend that you clean your ceramic filters every 3 months depending on how much water you are using. The more water you use, the more often you will need to clean your filters.

The charcoal filters are designed to remove chemicals and bacteria, but they do not filter out viruses. We recommend that you clean your charcoal filters every 6 months depending on how much water you are using. The more water you use, the more often you will need to clean your filters. To clean them, all you have to do is fold a paper towel in half, wet it with distilled vinegar, and wipe down the entire surface of the filter including the underside. That’s all there is to it!
