Matthew Davies Looks at The Most Unforgettable Moments of The Last Decade

Introduction

The 2010s has been a busy decade. Plenty of things happened that changed the way we talk to each other, hail rides, view media, and more. Matthew Davies suggests that before you get ready to welcome the new decade with new goals, ambitions, and passion, you should have a look at the past. Here are some of the most unforgettable moments of the last decade:

The Moments

  1. Streaming – Netflix officially started its streaming service back in 2007. However, it gained steam and completely took over in the last decade. But that was just the start of the streaming wars. Warner Brothers, Disney, and many other big Hollywood production companies wanted a slice of the streaming market and decided to roll back their licensed content on Netflix and launch them on their own platforms. You can’t forget Amazon with its Prime Video either. However, with so many players with their own content and licensing, it may soon become the new ground for battle and become similar to the cable network it tried to replace.
  1. Occupy Wall Street – In 2011, 1000 people marched and stormed the iconic financial district of New York City. The movement spread via social media and protesters condemned the present financial system with rising income inequality and the influence of the elite affluent faction in politics. However, Occupy Wall Street was just the first wave that got support from thousands of more supporters who launched protests in different cities nationwide.
  1. Brexit – During the mid-2016, the refugee crisis in Europe and migration polarized land of the queen and Brits voted their favor of withdrawing from the European Union. However, the lack of a good deal forced the United Kingdom to push the deadline of withdrawal. After the resignation of two prime ministers and several negotiations, the deadline has been shoved to the next decade without any signs of a resolution.
  1. #MeToo Movement – The word was coined by activist Tarana Burke back in 2006, but it exploded and brought down many influential individuals in late 2017. Harvey Weinstein, an extremely influential figure in Hollywood was brought down after long-rumored accusations of sexual assault and harassment on the producer were exposed. After that, millions of women came forward and expressed their support and solidarity towards the victims.
  1. Haiti Earthquake – Similar to this one, the previous decade didn’t start on a positive note. A massive earthquake with a magnitude of 7.0 hit Hispaniola, a West Indian island in the first month of 2010. Several aftershocks later, the quake hit Haiti quite hard and brought immense devastation to the country. It affected 3 million people with an astonishing death toll of over 200,000. The disaster brought response and humanitarian aid from all over the world.

Conclusion

According to Matthew Davies, the past decade had plenty of unforgettable moments. But these events brought major changes in the world. Let’s hope the next decade is a good one where you can hit all your goals.
